Top 3 Louis Vuitton Starter Pieces

I get asked “Which Louis Vuitton piece would you recommend as a starter piece?” quite often. A starter piece doesn’t necessarily need to be an SLG, but personally it’s a great gateway into entering the luxe world without breaking the bank. After research and looking at my collection, I was able to narrow it down to these Top 3 Louis Vuitton starter pieces.

Top 3 Small Leather Goods ‘SLGs’:

  • 1. Key Pouch $270 Comes in multiple canvas’, small and flat, D-ring to hook your keys, fit cards, zippered pouch.
    • I have both a discontinued version of a keypouch and the classic key pouch that is still available today.
    • I have too many keys for it to all fit inside the key pouch, so I just hook my keys and use the key pouch as a keychain.
    • Simple to carry, stash cards/receipts
    • The wear and tear has been amazing. I purchased mine about 7 years ago now and used it every day since (well almost everyday cos there are days when I just don’t leave the house ;P) and the canvas still looks amazing, no scratches or tears on the canvas. The glazing has worn off a bit on some edges, but it hasn’t affected the canvas at all. When compared to my newer key pouch, you can barely tell the difference between old and new.
    • Verdict: 10/10 recommend adding a key pouch to your collection!
  • 2. Rosalie Coin Purse $400available in all three classic canvas’ with plenty of interior colors to choose from, rounded flap that opens to a gusseted compartment, hold cards and bill (I previously wrote a more indepth review of the Rosalie here)
    • Although it is called a coin purse, don’t let it fool you. It holds sooo much and easily replaces any wallet.
    • If you are looking for a small and reliable compact wallet the Rosalie coin purse is one of the best contender.
    • I like to rotate through my SLGs, but the Rosalie usually gets the most love.
    • I see zero wear and tear, even the canvas button on my SLG is still in perfect condition.
    • Verdict: 10/10 would recommend to anyone and would buy another one in Damier Azur if I could!

  • 3. Card Holder starting from $220 & up – There are soooo many different versions, leather/canvas combos. Holds card or slips, no hooks, no zippers (unless it’s one of the “non traditional” ones).
    • If you don’t like to carry cash or coins then a card holder is definitely for you!
    • I’m usually not a card holder gal as I carry way too many for one card holder, but if you are really minimal and carry few your options are endless in deciding which card holder to purchase. I use it for my slimmer/smaller bags.
    • I love that it’s sleek and takes up close to no space. I have the LV reverse monogram card holder and without wanting to overstretch the canvas I put two credit cards in each side slots and one card in the middle.
    • Verdict: 8.5/10 recommend a card holder if you carry little cards and don’t feel the need to carry lots of cash

I have each of these items in my collection (whether it be in a different version, but same name/function) and LOVE them all. Even though the keypouch gets the most used, if you were to ask me which one I prefer and would recommend to start off with it would without a doubt be the Rosalie Coin Purse. It’s small, fits in our pockets, hold coins, cards, and so much for a compact wallet. As as your collection continues to grow, it doesn’t hurt to have all three though. 🙂

Of the three that I recommended, which would you start your luxe collection with? Or, if you have them which is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below or on my Instagram (@lovesettle)

Love,
Settle
