Gucci was going through a downhill spiral and was just about at the bottom of the pitfall until they hired Alessandro Michele their creative director in 2015 that turned the collection around and made Gucci pop back up into the scene. Alongside, Gucci also was huge among millennial and the younger crowds due to the hip-hop scene and songs that continuously referenced Gucci such as “Gucci Gucci” by Kreyshawn , “Gucci Gang” by Chief Keef and “I’m Gucci” by Migos just to name a few.
This expansion into the younger crowd by their lavish, yet urban look really turned Gucci around. Not only that, but they came out with collections that was surly going to be a classic and the ‘new’ staple for the Gucci brand and more particular their handbag collection. It’s hard to say what their classic handbags are, but today their new designs definatly made a staple into the ‘Classics’ of the handbag market such as the Gucci Dionysus and Marmont.
I love the Gucci Dionysus collection, however, it just was not in the budget at the time because of my Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis purchase (bag reveal coming soon!). However, when I came across the Gucci Padlock Small bag I KNEW I had to get my hands on one. I had only seen the bag online, but once I saw it in person while in Milan, Italy and then later in Paris, France during my Winter Vacation I KNEW I had to buy it. So I did, hence my reveal today. I say reveal because due to the weather and my busy work schedule I have not been able to use the bag, but just can’t wait once the weather heats up.
So here she is: Gucci Padlock Small GG Shoulder Bag.
Dimensions:
- Small size: 8″W x 5″H x 3″D
- Sliding chain strap can be worn as a shoulder strap with 20″ drop or can be worn as a top handle with 11″ drop
- Camel microfiber lining with a suede-like finish
- Made in Italy
In the Box: I bought this during the holidays so it came with holiday packaging and a postcard. It also came with care instructions and a swatch of the Gucci Monogram canvas.
Front: The Gucci Padlock’s front closure is with a flap and lock key closure, hence Padlock with a black color block of the top black flap and the bottom half is the GG Monogram Canvas print. The Tan clochette is embossed with “Gucci” in the front and tucked inside are two keys that locks and unlocks the closure.
Back: The back has a slot where you can put your credit card, metro card, or ID; it is a little stiff and not a flexible opening so just be careful. Again the black color block continues to the back and cuts at the top to their monogram canvas.
Interior: Inside is a nice microfiber/suede lining with one card slot side in the back. For a small bag, it is spacious enough to fit all your necessities. It even fits my Iphone X (with a popsocket) and more! You can see below the interior and they even have a Gucci Made in Italy tag.
Extra details and chain: The top is the black color block as mentioned before. The bottom has a strip of the back leather and the side is the dark tan that matches the clochette. Lastly, the bag is a [shiny] gold chain strap which is extremely durable and has a weight to it where you can tell that they did not go cheap.
The Gucci Padlock Small has a very simple and sleek design that you just really can’t resist. The color combo that contrasts with the Gucci monogram canvas does not overpower or cliche the bag at all. The detailing and quality is superb. You can find this bag at the Gucci store and on their website, but again I HIGHLY suggest you to purchase them on other online retailers where you can use Ebates or particularly if they have their own rewards programs (Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale, etc). The best part is, if you do not like this particular bag color, they come in LOTS of other canvas, color combos, and sizes as well.

Note: Some retailers show this bag with a black clochette, so beware or call in to make sure they are going to send the right product. When I went to Italy, they said the black clochette is exclusive to certain countries such as USA and not sold in Italy, so just take note of that. [I found this out because I wanted the black clochette originally, but am happy with the brown/dark tan one]
